Please go to the Victor-Farmington Library on June 23 from noon to 8 p.m. to vote in favor of community-based funding of our town library. If you will be out of town, call the Victor Central School district clerk at (585) 924-3252, ext 1402 for your absentee ballot.
Fairport Library and Canandaigua’s Wood Library are libraries that are already community-based This means that annually you choose the funding for your library, not the town board. Currently, funding for our local library is in the hands of the Farmington and Victor town boards.
I was not aware that over the past several years, funds allocated in the Victor town budget for the library have not kept pace with costs. Your yes vote for community-based funding will send a message to our library: We like what’s going on,, and want even more.
You will not be double-taxed. The funds for our library that have, in the past, been a line item in our town taxes, will no longer be part of the town taxes; rather, you’ll actually be voting on the exact library amount as a separate proposition when you vote on the school budget.
Approval of this proposition would mean the library would be open Sundays year-round, there would be an increase in children and teen programming, more digital literacy classes, increased computer training, a larger inventory of eBooks and downloadable audio books. For answers to your questions, call Library Director Elly Dawson at (585) 924-3627.
