BATH — Authorities say a Hornell man has been arrested using a fake name and posing as a homeless person on leave from the military to receive a hotel voucher from the Steuben County Department of Social Services.

Kadeem Weldon, 21, of Hornell was arrested Wednesday by the Steuben County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit and charged with first-degree falsifying business records and second-degree criminal impersonation.

Weldon was arrested while incarcerated at Steuben County Jail on other charges.

Weldon allegedly gave the Steuben County Department of Social Services a false name in January and received a hotel voucher paid by them after he claimed to be homeless and on leave from the military. After the Steuben County Department of Social Services realized Weldon gave them a false name the appropriate action was taken.

Weldon will appear in Bath Village Court to answer the charges. The Steuben County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit was assisted by the Steuben County Department of Social Services and the Steuben County District Attorney's Office.
