GREENWOOD — A Steuben County man was killed and a pair of passengers in his vehicle were injured Saturday afternoon as the result of a two-car accident at the intersection of state Routes 248 and 417 in Greeenwood.
New York State Police identified the individual killed as Eugene Williams, 66, of Bath.
Troopers said a 2015 Ford Fusion operated by Williams was westbound on Route 248 at approximately 12:20 p.m, when it entered the intersection with Route 417 without yielding the right of way. A southbound Dodge 2500 pickup, which troopers said was operated by Daniel Deming, 70, of Wellsville, took evasive action but was not able to avoid a collision with Williams' car.
Eugene Williams, passenger Elizabeth Williams, 44, and a two-month-old boy were taken to St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, where Eugene Williams was pronounced dead. Elizabeth Williams and the infant were treated and released.
Police said Deming was not seriously injured.
The accident was investigated by troopers from North Hornell with assistance from Wayland and Bath-based State Police.
Emergency personnel responded from the Greenwood Fire Department, the Hornell Fire Department and the Canisteo and Andover ambulance squads.
Authorities said an accident reconstruction was taking place on Saturday, but charges were not anticipated.
