On behalf of the Patriot Guard Riders of New York, and the Veteran Recovery Program, I would like to offer my most sincere thank you to everyone who came out on September 6 to honor and show respect for the forgotten Veterans we escorted to Bath National Cemetery for full military honors and their rightful final resting place. They are forgotten no more.
At last count, we had 178 motorcycles in this escort, the largest turnout for a VRP Mission so far. The riders came from many counties: Wyoming, Erie, Niagara, Monroe, Ontario, Steuben, Allegany, Cattaraugus, Wayne, Yates, Seneca, Tompkins, and others. I can’t begin to tell you how impressed these riders were with the tremendous turnout and show of respect they rode by in Livingston County. From Leicester, to Mt. Morris, to Sonyea, to Dansville, and points in-between…the gatherings were personally overwhelming: Adults, children, businesses, fire and EMS departments, school students, veterans organizations, construction workers, agencies, prison employees, County/Town/Village employees, and many others.
This was the first time we routed the mission through Dansville, because I felt the Dansville community deserved the opportunity to show how much they wanted to be part of this honorable show of respect. The response to that “challenge” was overwhelming! I’m confident our new route will become permanent for future VRP Missions. I’d like to thank in particular Linda Culbertson, Dennis Mahus, Betsy Jerome Smith, and Bill Gilbert for their efforts in making contacts and arrangements to ensure Dansville’s first turnout was awesome.
My sincere thanks to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, Mt. Morris PD, and Dansville PD for ensuring our escort made it through Livingston County safely, and to Livingston County EMS for providing a perfect staging area.
Finally, thank you to the Livingston County News, Genesee Country Express and GeneseeSun for getting the word out with articles and coverage of this solemn tribute to 12 Veterans who honorably served the United States of America.
Thank you EVERYONE…you did Livingston County proud!
