The Wayland Area Wrestling Club was in double-header action over the weekend with tournaments in both Wellsville and Waterloo. The team tournament in Wellsville saw WAWC bring home the third place hardware, while the Sunday, March 20, individual tournament in Waterloo saw nine area wrestlers participate.

The Wayland Area Wrestling Club was in double-header action over the weekend with tournaments in both Wellsville and Waterloo. The team tournament in Wellsville saw WAWC bring home the third place hardware, while the Sunday, March 20, individual tournament in Waterloo saw nine area wrestlers participate. The results were as follows.


On Saturday, March 19, in  Wellsville first place finishers included Colton Wood (3-0, 3 pins) and Rece Chapman (2-0). Taking seconds were  Alex Ott (1-1, 1 pin) Nick Prinzi, J.J. Smith (3-1, 3 pins), Ryan Damboise (1-1), Hunter Stone (2-1), Mike Smith (2-1) and Jake Wormuth (1-1, 1 pin). Third place finishers included Blake Zastawrny (2-1), Masin Schuster (3-1, 3 pins). Finishing fourth were Adam Green and Nathan LaFaye (4-1, 2 pins). Also wrestling well in Wellsville were  Austin Pifer (2-2, 1 pin), Wyatte Gates (1-2), along with Dillin Quackenbush, Sidney Stone, Aaron Ott and Daniel Harter.


In Sunday’s (March 20) individual action in Waterloo, WAWC had four first place finishers including Brandon Canute (2-0, 1 pin), Ryan Dambiose (3-0, 1 pin), Rece Chapman (2-0, 2 pins) and Jake Wormuth ( 2-0, 1 pin, 1 tech). Masin Schuster had a third with a record of (3-1). J.J. Smith finished fourth with a (3-1) day. Nathan LaFaye (1-2), Colton Wood (1-2, 1 pin) and Adam Green all wrestled well for the locals.


The Wayland Area Wrestling Club’s final tournament of the season comes up in a split-session event at Marcus Whitman on Saturday, March 26, as 5-10-year-olds wrestle at 9 a.m. followed by the 11-14s who will be on the mat at approximately 1 p.m.
