Tomatoes had their big day at the annual Sauguerties Farmers Market Taste-Off last week, with winners Joe Cook (Tastiest - SunGold Cherry), Mangia Bene (Most Unusual - Beef Heart) and Slow Roots (Heaviest - 2.15 lb Rose Tomato) awarded gift certificates from Dig Boutique, Partition Street Wine Shop, and Cafe Tamayo.  Gardeners take note:  sungold tomatoes have won the tastiest category two years running, with intense competiton.

Local potatoes are now rolling into the market.  Red Thumbs, the first fingerlings of the season, plus Nicolas, the all-purpose potato with amazing texture and flavour, join the more familiar Adirondack Reds and Golds from Slow Roots Farm. Purple, cream and spiral cauliflower, multi-color eggplants, fresh goat cheese and local eggs are just some of what's available from area farmers in the Saugerties Farmers Market, open every Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm at 115 Main Street until October 8.
Folk singer/songwriter Chrissy Budzinski brings her heartfelt ballads and  acoustic guitar playing to the Market this Saturday.  Art Lab returns with creative experiences for parents and children from 10 to 1 pm.
