It was a memorable send-off for a dozen Mustang seniors on Wednesday night as Dansville defeated Livonia in boys basketball at the Corral 54-51.

Mustang sharp-shooting senior guard Mitch Lamerson scored 11 points in the fourth quarter including a basket with a minute left to put the red and black in front for good. Steve MacDonald and Ray Tighe each helped to ice the cake knocking down key free throws in the final seconds to secure the win.

Before the game, Dansville saluted senior cheerleaders Clara Inzinna, Katerina Lopez and Brooke West along with players Steve MacDonald, Tyler Harnish, Tighe, Lamerson, Will Brooks, Geoff VanDunk, Gio Mountzouros, Alex Alford and Aidan Rollman.

The game unfolded in tight fashion as Dansville attempted to avenge an earlier season setback to the orange and blue at the Dog House. The Mustangs held the slim two-point lead at the end of the first quarter, a lead that remained intact at the half with the red and black clinging to a 26-24 edge.

Livonia evened the score at 36-36 at the end of the third quarter, putting both teams in a dead heat for the finish over the final eight minutes.

Midway through the fourth, it was 44-44. The game’s momentum swung back and forth like the pendulum of a clock as the lead changed hands six times over the last 3:30.

With 1:11 left Livonia had a 50-49 edge that reversed when Lamerson buried a deuce, putting Dansville up by one. It marked the final lead change as MacDonald hit a free throw with 23 seconds left, making it a two-point game. The Mustangs made a defensive stop on the other end and Tighe hit a pair of charity tosses with just 11 ticks of the timer left to secure what wound up a 54-51 triumph.

Dansville (7-11) was paced by Lamerson’s double-double performance with 20 points (11 in the fourth quarter) and 11 rebounds. VanDunk had 10 with seven boards. Will Brooks also had 10 points with four rebounds. Ray Tighe had seven points and seven rebounds. Steve MacDonald scored five with five boards. Tyler Harnish had two points and Brandon Day grabbed a pair of rebounds in the victory.
