Grad Bash has had its first organizational meeting and set the calendar for the remainder of the year. Meetings will be March 2, April 13, May 4 and May 24 at 7 p.m. in the high school library. If you aren’t familiar with Grad Bash, the event was started more than 20 years ago to provide a safe place for kids to celebrate during graduation weekend. The event is a lock-in party meant to discourage risky behaviors like drinking and driving. The party is possible through community donations and countless volunteer hours. The committee is looking for people interested in getting involved in a huge variety of activities. If you are interested but unable to attend a meeting, please contact Cecelia Hopkins at school or by e-mail at chopkins@wccsk12.org. You don’t need to have a student in school to participate — everyone is encouraged to get involved.

The Board of Education continues to meet with budget planning for 2011–12 being a top priority. The community is encouraged to attend Board meetings and get involved in learning how significant cuts in state aid will impact student programs. The next Board meeting is at 7 p.m. Monday, March 7, in the LGI. All budget presentations are available on the school website from a link found on the homepage. However, if you would like to hear the discussions that accompany these presentations, please consider attending.

Middle school families should have received notices home about student conferences in March. Please contact the school if you have not received a notice to schedule a meeting. Students will be presenting their portfolios to their families. Please return your request for a time and day to the school upon your child’s return to school.

Get your tickets for the first annual dinner concert on Tuesday, March 15, in the school cafeteria. The Jazz Band and Select Chorus will be performing while you enjoy a dinner of chicken parmesan, tossed salad, garlic bread, homemade desserts, milk, coffee or water. Tickets are $8 and available in the business office for from music students. Event benefits the senior music student trip to Cleveland.

Students return from winter recess on Monday, Feb. 28. There is roller skating for prekindergarten through fourth grade from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 7.
