My hat is off to everyone who was involved in putting together Friday night’s fundraiser for Childrens Diabetes at the Mustangs Corral in Dansville. The game was between the Dansville Dream Team (we must have been dreaming if we thought we could play with those guys) against the Harlem Rockets.

The night was a fan-friendly evening that brought folks of every age out in droves. Of course, that’s what it’s all about anyway. After seeing the first alley-oop slam dunk, I was at peace knowing that Pastor Shawn Harnish was on our team to perform the service while I noted Rodney Johnson came in and I thought he could provide flowers for the coffin. Now I know why I leave the basketball playing to the basketball players.
It was a great night filled with the thrill of action above the rim (obviously not the Dream Team), some super-skills, trick shots and zany antics galore. The whole house was rockin’, groovin’, slammin’ and laughin’. A couple of the highlights of the night were Carrie Newcomb showing us “Speedy’s” best side at the foul line in the second half and Carter Davis banking home a big shot late in the game. The final score on the scoreboard read Rockets 102, Dream Team 86.
But to honest with you, the real winners are all the youngsters who will be benefited by this fundraiser. It was a packed house and everybody had a grand time. I was very happy to be part of it and I’d like to thank Cindy and Kevin Davis in particular for spearheading this momentous event, as well as everyone who attended, made donations, provided prizes, played in the game and prayed for the cause as well. Our area communities need more events of this nature to maintain the wholesome nature of our society.
