Norman Peter Fox Sr., 77, formerly of Springwater, died Oct. 8, 2010 at the Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby, N.C.
Norman Peter Fox Sr., 77, formerly of Springwater, died Oct. 8, 2010 at the Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby, N.C. He was born in Wayland, the only son of Peter G. and Martha (Marks) Fox. He graduated from Wayland-Cohocton Central School, studied electrical and mechanical engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology while working for FASCO Industries Inc. in Rochester. A Korean Conflict veteran, he was instrumental in organizing U.S. Army Reserve unit in Wayland as part of the 98th Division. Upon transfer to FASCO’s new plant in Shelby, N.C., he joined the 108th Division in Charlotte, N.C., from which he retired in 1986 with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a life member of Springwater American Legion Post 905, and an active volunteer in the Lifeline program at the Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Fox is survived by wife of 34 years, Marie (Hansen) Fox, Cherryville, N.C.; children, Norman P. Jr. of Germany; Nathan of Avon; Nanette Riffe of Grover, N.C.; Lee Ann Bradford of Alabama; and Natalie (Tom) Mix of Fountain, Colo. He was preceded in death by son Neil K. Fox in 2007. He is also survived by six step-children, Michael (Bonnie) of Lincolnton, N.C.; Steven and Donald Vincent of Cherryville, N.C.; Frances (Gil) Livingston and Susie Gayhart of Warsaw; and Virginia Muldoon of North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Bonnie (Short) Fox; 36 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
Arrangements entrusted to Carpenter Funeral Home, Cherryville, N.C. Visitation was at home and cremation was chosen. Mr. Fox’s ashes will be interred at the Mt. Vernon/Evergreen Cemetery, Kellogg Road, Springwater, at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 16. A luncheon will follow for family and friends.
