  • For the second year in a row, the Dansville Area Historical Society dinner and meeting will continue with the theme of the sesquicentennial of the American Civil War.
The 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War was last year, and commemorations are continuing throughout the country until 2015, on the 150th anniversary of its ending.
Last year’s dinner presentation was conducted by Amie Alden, Livingston County historian, on the background of the area’s many Civil War monuments.
This year, Les Buell of East Williamson will be presenting “Medicines of the Civil War.”
Buell is a Civil War reinactor who takes his knowledge of the era’s medical history beyond the reinactment camps and into schools and other venues to conduct programs such as this.
He is a regular presenter during the annual Civil War Days for Dansville eighth graders.
Buell is a retired American History teacher, is an active member of the Society of Civil War Surgeons and of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine.
The program will be Oct. 13 in the Daniel Goho American Legion Post, 34 Elizabeth Street, Dansville.
The spaghetti dinner will begin at 6 p.m. with the annual meeting and program to follow. Cost is $8. Tickets are available from historical society board members and at local banks.
Proceeds will benefit the Dansville Area Historical Society, a not-for-profit organization.
