  • Livingston County Sheriff's deputies charged a 29-year-old man Friday with multiple felonies in connection with a Nov. 27 accident in West Sparta that left two dead.
William Schledorn of West Sparta is charged with three felonies: driving while intoxicated, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and first-degree making an apparently false sworn statement.
According to a Livingston County Sheriff's Office press release, Schledorn lied to deputies during the investigation into an accident that killed Joshua Price, 31, of Sparta and Katie M. Burr, 21, of Dansville on Nov. 27 on Kysorville Byersville Road.
The release stated that Schledorn was friends with both Price and Burr and was interviewed at the scene of the accident and several times in the following days.
Deputies alledge Schledorn made false statements during those interviews and failed to notify deputies and investigators that he had been operating a second motor vehicle and that he had consumed alcohol prior to the operation of the vehicle.
The initial press release from the sheriff's office regarding the fatal accident, released on Nov. 27, described the incident as a "one-car" accident.
Schledorn has a revoked state license for a prior DWI conviction, which triggered the felony-level DWI and unlicensed operation charges.
He was arraigned in West Sparta town court and remanded to county jail in lieu of $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.
