Why give Mom a bouquet of flowers, when you can surround her with garden full of lilacs?  Families in search of a special way to spend Mother’s Day are encouraged to visit Clermont State Historic Site on Sunday, May 8 at 1pm for the Mother’s Day Tea and Garden Tour.
A special Mother’s Day Tour and Tea will tell the story of the last beloved matriarch of the Clermont estate, Alice Livingston, and the experiences she shared with her two daughters in the gardens at Clermont.  Participants will enjoy a leisurely walk through some of the historic gardens, including the Lilac Walk, which is expected to bloom for the event.  Illustrated with family photographs and Alice’s own writings, the tour will end with an afternoon tea.  Light fare will be served, including Clermont’s own blend of Harney & Sons tea, cucumber sandwiches, and tea cookies, all to be enjoyed in the garden within view of the Hudson River.  Admission is $12 per person, free for children under 5.  Please call 518-537-4240 for reservations.
Clermont State Historic Site features the mansion, formal gardens, scenic Hudson River views and miles of hiking trails.  The Friends of Clermont is a private, non-profit educational corporation, founded in 1977 to support and supplement the museum education and historic preservation programs at Clermont State Historic Site.  Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973, Clermont is one of six historic sites and 13 parks administered by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation in the Taconic Region.  For more information on New York State Parks, please visit our websites at www.nysparks.com or www.FriendsofClermont.org.
