Dansville softball skipper Gene Jackson commented on how important it is to get off to a good start, “It’s great because it takes some of the pressure off you early in the game.”

That's exactly what happened when the sixth seeded Mustangs paid a visit to the Devils Den in Attica as Dansville knocked off the third seed in the quarterfinal round of the Section V Class B-2 Sectional Softball Tournament. The Mustangs scored early and often plating nine runs in the first inning en route to a 10-2 rout of the homestanding Blue Devils.

The visiting Mustangs came out swinging as they sent 12 hitters to the plate in the first frame. Amanda Irish led off with a single, stole second and went to third on an infield error. Billie Chappell started the scoring with an RBI single. She would later steal second on Clarissa Swain’s two-run single. Bri Long, Kelsey Snyder and Karleigh Perry all strung hits together to later load the bases. Erica Wish doubled home two of them and then Amanda Irish's second hit of the inning scored one, which set the stage for Hailey Sick's two-run homer to make it 9-1. Attica scratched away a run in the bottom of the first and then Clarissa Swain settled down and  held the Blue Devils scoreless until they plated an unearned run in the seventh. Dansville scored their other run in the top of the fifth when Karliegh Perry singled and swiped second. Erica Wise singled to put runners at the corners. Amanda Irish brought the run home with a sacrifice fly to left field to cap the 10-2 victory.

Clarissa Swain went the distance for the win allowing just five hits and one earned run while fanning 10 and walking two. Dansville's (9-10) offense exploded for 15 hits in the game. Amanda Irish was 2-2 with a pair of RBIs, a sacrifice, scored two runs and stole a base. Hailey Sick 1-4 with a two-run homer and scored twice. Jessica Camuto went 1-4.
