Board of Education Candidate Petition Packets Available


All over New York State, residents will vote on school budgets and board of education candidates on May 17, 2011. There is one five-year term open for the Wayland-Cohocton School District Board of Education. If interested in running for the position, please stop in the business office at the Wayland campus, Monday – Friday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. to pick up a petition packet. The petition is due on April 18 by 5 p.m. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and able to read and write. They need to be qualified voters of the district and residents of the district for at least one year prior to the election. Also, candidates may not be employees of the board of education or have more than one member of family serving on the board of education. Candidates may not hold two incompatible public offices simultaneously.


March of Dimes Dress Down Day


The Wayland-Cohocton Central  School staff collected $504 to donate to March of Dimes on Friday, March 18, in a Dress-Down Day. In exchange for a donation, the staff dons some more casual attire. This donation will be part of the March for Babies event.


Electronics Recycling Day


Save the date! Saturday, April 2, 9 a.m. to noon will be the fourth annual electronics recycling day sponsored by REACT (Recycling Electronics and Computers Technologies, Inc.) of Elmira and the IT Department of Wayland-Cohocton. Bring your old electronics and drop them off for free. The following items are welcomed: computers, monitors, keyboards, mice, PDAs cell phones, other phones, printers, copiers, faxes, scanners, stereo equipment, radios, VCR and DVD players, cameras, camcorders and projectors of any type. Other Upcoming Events


Thursday, March 24 there is an early dismissal for kindergarten through eighth grade students. This will provide time for parent-teacher conferences in the afternoon and evening. There is no school for students on Monday, March 28, as faculty and staff will be taking part in a professional development opportunity. There is roller skating on Monday, April 4, and a Growing Writers Workshop for new kindergarten students on April 8.
