The Websters Crossing United Methodist Church was packed for the memorial service for June Perkins, 95, a member since March 29, 1953. June was an active church member. She held the position of secretary to the United Methodist Women for many years and headed the dinner arrangements. She was known for her friendly smile, quiet manner, and desires to have everything look “just so.” She said we could always “make do with what we had.” June was a founding member of the Springwater–Webster Crossing Historical Society and was instrumental in seeing that the group was off to a good start with the donation of money left from the Home Bureau Group she belonged to and headed for many years. She made sure that the hamlet of Websters Crossing was not forgotten. She leaves a long standing legacy for helping others.
You are invited for the Sunday, March 18, Dish-to-pass Supper and Brown Bag Auction at Websters Crossing United Methodist Church at 4 p.m.
Last Sunday, March 11, 17 Springwater Trails hikers braved the 60-degree weather and the time confusion to hike the Rattlesnake Hill Wildlife Management Area west of Dansville. This was the first time that the group had hiked this DEC land, but several members were familiar with the area and freely shared their knowledge of the geography and wild life. We hiked about four miles and saw ponds and potholes, geese and wood duck houses and enjoyed the beautiful blue skies. After the hike we enjoyed more conversation and dinner at the Sunrise in Dansville. Next week we will hike the north end of Hemlock Lake. Join us after your pancakes at the Maple Weekend at Sugarbush Hollow. If you would like to get on the mailing list, send an email to info@springwatertrails.org or join our Google group at groups.Google.com/group/Springwater-trails.

The third annual Softball Tournament to Benefit Vincent House last Saturday was very successful. Despite the chill in the air and lots of mud on the ground, the 141 players formed teams and played their hearts out for a very good cause. Players came from Irondequoit, Hamlin, Greece, Canaseraga, Avon and several other towns in the seven immediate counties. The proceeds are still being tallied, but everyone seemed to have a wonderful time with the last game finishing up close to 6 p.m. Many thanks go out to all of the sponsors, the umpires and to the players for their efforts on behalf of this worthwhile project.

It appears we may have a taste of spring this week. Enjoy the sunshine and let Katherine or me know if you have special events planned for your group so we can get them in the column and I can add them to the Community Calendar found on our town’s website.
