  • Wayland-Cohocton nearly let a 12-2 lead get away in Livonia on Monday afternoon. The Lady Bulldogs rallied, but came up just short, 12-10. It looked like Way-Co (13-5, 7-0) would breeze to the win, but the Lady Eagles had a surprise as the Bulldogs kept battling back, but ran out of time as Way-Co held on to seal their seventh straight Livingston Conference Division 1 title.
Way-Co jumped out to a huge lead early in the game by scoring seven times in the first inning. Keaira Notebaert doubled home the first run, while Hannah McKelvey, Taylor Presti and Hannah Kuhn each drove in a run and then Diane Cork’s deep shot to the fence with the bases juiced drove in three runs. The Eagles plated five more in the fourth with MacKenzie Weber, Presti and Kuhn all drove in runs in that inning as well.
Livonia scored in every inning except the second as they managed to only put one run per inning up early and deuces in the final three frames.
The two teams pounded out 36 hits between them as Way-Co held on despite some shoddy defense that allowed a number of unearned runs to cross the plate late in the game.
For Way-Co, Cork went 1-3 and drove in three runs while scoring one; Courtney Smith 2-5 with a pair of stolen bases and scored twice; Weber 1-3 with a sacrifice fly and drove in a run; Notebaert 2-5 with a double and knocked in  a couple of runs; McKelvey 1-4 with an RBI and scored once; Amanda Feely was 3-5 with an RBI and scored a pair of runs; Presti 2-3 with a triple two RBIs and scored two runs; Brianna Sick 1-2 and scored two runs; Kuhn was 3-4 with three RBIs and Chelsea Bartlett finished up 2-3 with a run.
