Tuesday, September 4 opens the 124th annual GCVFA convention.  This year's hosts will be the Town of Athens, namely West Athens-Lime Street Fire Company and the Athens Volunteer Fire Department.
 
The convention opens with the ladies annual meeting at 7:30 at the Athens firehouse.  On Wednesday, the ladies will gather for their annual dinner followed on Thursday with the men's dinner, Memorial (7:30pm) and Annual meeting (8pm) also at the Athens firehouse.
 
On Friday, September 7th, the business of the convention concludes and the fun begins.  Line-up for the annual Mardi Gras parade will be at 6pm at the the Athens Elementary School on a first-come, first-in-line basis.  Step-off is at 6:30pm and the marchers will proceed from the school to South Vernon Street and then down Second Street to Riverfront Park.  Entertainment & refreshments for all participants and their families will be available at the end.
 
Saturday, September 8th will combine business and pleasure.  It is then the annual dress parade will be held.  Line-up is at 1pm beginning by the Athens Boat Launch on Rte 385.  From there the parade will travel Rte 385 into the village of Athens to Second Street to S Vernon Street and end at the Athens firehouse.  Grand Marshalls for the parade will be Robert VanValkenburg, Norman Fuller & Peter Bruno.  The line-up for the parade is:
