Harland C. “Skip” Foster Jr., 67, of 7956 Mill St., Springwater, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at Strong Memorial Hospital alter an illness.

Harland C. “Skip” Foster Jr., 67, of 7956 Mill St., Springwater, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at Strong Memorial Hospital alter an illness.


He was born Oct. 21, 1943 in Rochester, the son of Harland C. Sr. and Evelyn (Welton) Foster. Skip was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served from 1963–67. Skip was married Sept. 24, 1966, in the Springwater United Methodist Church to Candace K. (Grouse) Foster. He was employed by Delco Products in Rochester from 1965 until he retired in 1995, after 30 years of service. For eight years he was employed at the Honeoye Lake boat launch, which was a job he really enjoyed.


Skip was a life member of the Springwater Gun Club, Springwater Fire Department and a member of the Springwater American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He was a Boy Scout leader for the Springwater Boy Scout Troop, a New York State Hunter Safety Instructor for 40 years and the Livingston County Coordinator for Hunter Safety Courses for many years. He coached baseball and started Little League and Minor League Baseball in Springwater. He enioyed spending time with children, especially his grandchildren, giving tractor rides and rides in his 1967 Dodge Charger. He loved to tell and hear jokes.


Skip was predeceased by his mother, Evelyn Foster in 2010. He is survived by his wife, Candy Foster of Springwater; a daughter: Samantha (Sean) Irwin of Springwater; a son, Lynn (Stacy) Foster of Springwater; grandchildren, Chad, Brett, Alex, Joey, Savannah and Breanna; father, Harland C. Foster Sr. of Mt. Morris; seven brothers and sisters; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his best friends, Rick and Carol Tripp.


A memorial service was at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, at the Springwater United Methodist Church with the Reverend Gerry Metz officiating. Interment at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland.
