Dansville Central School District’s administrators and finance committee members are assembling a comprehensive list of cost-saving measures in an effort to close the $4 million gap between anticipated revenues and estimated expenditures for the 2011–12 school year. These measures will be presented during the public session of the Tuesday, March 1, Board of Education meeting. The meeting will be in the Ellis B. Hyde Elementary School gymnasium at 7 p.m. Community members are encouraged to attend.

Cheerleading Donation


The Mustang Cheerleaders coached by Larry and Phyllis Greene donated a television to the Grow & Learn after-school program. The television was purchased with proceeds from the Annual Spirit Challenge hosted by the squad in Dansville. The television will be used by the Grow & Learn program as well as the cheerleaders to review tapes of their routines.


EBH Chess Club triumphs again


EBH Elementary School Chess Club earned first place at its recent tournament. Congratulations to everyone who participated. In the advanced division, Camden Malone earned second place and MaCauley Kastner earned fourth place. Frankie Mountzouros was also a point-earner for this level. In the intermediate division, Jason Chase earned second place, Ethan Hart earned third place and Austin Newman earned fourth place. In the beginner division, Evan Sinsebox took first, Derek Bell took second place. Josh Keiffer and Arrik Gerber were also point-earners. In the open division, Nick Camuto earned first place, Carter Brietzke second, Zach Foster third. Caleb Miller and Sophie Leuzzi brought home additional points.


Spring season parent-athlete meeting


The Dansville Athletic Department will host the spring season athletic meeting 5:30–6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, in the high school gymnasium for student-athletes and their parents. Student-athletes participating in spring modified, junior varsity or varsity sports, and their parents are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting. This is an excellent opportunity to make sure your paperwork is current and to meet the coaches. If you have questions, please contact Athletic Director Patrick Moses at 585-335-4000 ext. 1018.


Kindergarten registration


Dansville will hold 2011-12 kindergarten registration from Monday, Feb. 28, through Friday, March 4, each day between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Children who will be 5 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2011, are eligible to enroll. Kindergarten registration packets have been mailed to families identified through the census. Parents who have not received this information or who have questions should contact the primary school at 585-335-4040. Parents should bring the following to registration: original birth certificate, certificate of immunizations signed by a doctor and the completed registration packet. Families do not need to bring their child to registration. After completing the registration process, families will make an appointment for their child to be screened. Kindergarten screening will be on Friday, April 29. If you have not received a registration packet, please notify the office immediately and one will be mailed to you.


Universal PreK registration


Dansville 2011–12 Universal Pre-Kindergarten registration will be March 7–11 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Children who will be 4 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2011, are eligible to enroll. Universal Pre-Kindergarten registration packets have already been mailed to families identified through the census. Parents who have not received this information or who have questions should contact the primary school directly at 585-335-4040 ext. 2003. Parents should bring the registration packet and the child’s original birth certificate when they register. Please remember that it is not necessary to bring your child to registration.


Other upcoming events




Students in the primary and elementary schools will be jumping rope to benefit healthy hearts on Friday, Feb. 18. The students will also be making a donation to the American Heart Association during the rally. The jump challenge winner will be announced as well as top fundraisers. The afternoon promises to be a strong reminder that healthy activities lead to a healthy heart.

President’s Day is Monday, Feb. 21, and all school offices will be closed. Students will be on the president’s recess Feb. 21–25.

Monday, Feb. 28, the Middle School PTO will meet at 6 p.m. in the middle school guidance office conference room.
