  • Kathrine M. Zimmer, 80, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Ira Davenport Hospital in Bath.

  • Kathrine M. Zimmer, 80, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Ira Davenport Hospital in Bath.
    Kay was born Feb. 5, 1932, in Wayland, a daughter of Joseph and Lucile (Curtiss) Zimmer. Kay was a homemaker and surrogate mother to many. In addition to her parents, Kay was also predeceased by two sisters, Betty Garrigues and Donna Fox.
    Kay was a member of the St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cohocton and she was the organist for St. Pius Church and St. Januarius Church in Naples for many years.
    Kay enjoyed playing Bingo, ceramics, crafts, reading, traveling with her mother and church member’s on many outings with the church, but most of all she loved babysitting children for which she did for many years. Kay was a proud lady and even wrote a book about her life called “Baby Steps”; a portion of which was published in the Lutheran Digest.
    Kay is survived by one sister, Ruth Lucy; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, godchildren, her dear friend, Marlene Washburn; and many good friends and neighbors.
    Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Walter E. Baird and Sons Funeral Home, 300 W. Naples St., Wayland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Church, Fremont St., Wayland. Burial will be in Clearview Cemetery, North Cohocton.
