  • Nine candidates’names will appear on ballots March 20 in the villages of Nunda, Wayland and Cohocton.
For Livingston County, Nunda is the only village in the Express coverage area with seats up for election this year. After Curt Simmons moved out of the village last year, deputy mayor Jack Morgan was appointed to fill his place.
Morgan is running unapposed in the formal public vote to fill the mayoral vacancy for the remaining two years. Reginald Grosse is the only candidate running to fill the seat vacated by Morgan when he moved into the mayoral role.
In another interesting move, former Nunda mayor Jeff Essler is returning to the political scene to vye for a trustee seat. Essler decided not to run for mayor after his first term expired two years ago.
For the Express coverage area in Steuben County, Wayland has one trustee seat open this season, while Cohocton has two trustee seats and one justice seat open for election.
Michael Parks is running unopposed to fill the open Wayland seat, which will be vacated by Gene Wolfanger who was appointed by the board to temporarily fill a seat vacated when Danny Dean took on the position of assistant fire chief for the Wayland Fire Department.
In Cohocton, Janice Sahrle is running for reelection, while Daniel McClure has decided not run for another term. Wendell Freelove is running unopposed for McClure’s seat.
Justice Ronald Snyder is running unopposed for his four-year justice seat.
