The Good Body,a play by Eve Ensler,author of The Vagina Monologues, will be presented as a reading by women of all sizes and ages from the Hudson Valley community on Sept 9 & 10 at 8pm. The Kleinert Gallery, 34 Tinker Street in Woodstock, will be the setting for the event which will benefit the Washbourne House to End Domestic Violence, a Family of Woodstock shelter since 1980.
Ensler described The Good Body as " an expression of hope that we will all refuse to be a corporate cutout Barbie bold and love your body. Stop fixing it. It was never broken."  Broadway critics hailed the play as " forthrightly funny" with "smart and knowing writing."
Carol Fox Prescott, a veteran actress,director, master teacher and playwright who worked with Ensler on the Broadway production will direct the reading. Prescott indicated the The Good Body's message goes out to all who have lost track of their beauty and power.
Anne Landfield, the reading's producer, stated that The Good Body is her first experience working in theater. Landfield's background in science,nursing and women's studies led to her philosophy. " I finally know that if my body works well for me, it will look good as well."  
Prescott and Landfield will be working with a talented cast of readers from local towns throughout the region. The character of Eve Ensler will be read by Susan Rosen of Saugerties. Mary Messina will read Helen Gurley Brown and Julia Boylan portrays Isabella Rossellini.Ellie Arons, Roberta Jehu, Jill Ann Schwartz, Fiona Melamen, Amy Knoth ,Marcia Alpert and Anne Landfield round out the cast.
 A $15 suggested donation includes the reading and an informal discussion to follow. Refreshments will be available.
