  • Marlene Scranton Rector of Cleveland, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the age of 60 following a determined battle with ALS.

  • Marlene Scranton Rector of Cleveland, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the age of 60 following a determined battle with ALS.
    Marlene was born in Rochester to the late Randall Albert and Anne Lohfink Scranton. She is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Gary Rector; daughters, Rebecca (Kevin) Lauriault and Laura Hanss; son, Jeremy (Brooke) Rector; brother, Roger Scranton; sisters, Mary Beth (Tom) Kurtenbach and Cheryl (Bill) Barrett; sister-in-law, Donna Rector; and grandchildren, Matthew, Timothy and Arabella Lauriault, and Ella and Nessa Rector; several nephews, one niece and numerous caring friends.
    Marlene earned her nursing degree at Brockport State College. She worked as a visiting nurse for Monroe County before relocating to Wayland. She worked as the school nurse for Wayland–Cohocton Elementary School before retiring to Georgia. Marlene also was a successful Creative Circle Representative for several years.
    Marlene was a faithful member of the Friendship Baptist Church and regularly attended Bible study. She was a member of the Quilt Guild, an avid reader and passionate gardener. She kept active playing on a volleyball league and enjoyed her time spent at Curves.
    A Celebration of Life was held Nov. 20 at the Friendship Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Joey Pritchett. Arrangements were conducted by Barrett Funeral Home of Cleveland, Ga.
