  • Robert P. LaForce of Dansville passed Dec. 1, 2012, at home with his family by his side at the age of 90.
Bob was born in Dansville on Oct. 30, 1922, the son of the late Robert and Margaret LaForce. On Dec. 24, 1945, he was married to his wife, Margaret Jane LaForce, who predeceased him on Feb. 26, 2004, and they shared 58 years of marriage together. He was a veteran of World war II, having served in both the U.S. Coast Guard and then the U.S. Navy. Bob was an outstanding athlete as a young man and held many long standing records at both the Dansville High School and Alfred University. He was an inaugural member of the Dansville High School Athletic Wall of Fame. Prior to his retirement in 1975, Bob was the chief of police for the village of Dansville and a member of the Cocobolo Club. Bob was a 65-year member of the Union Hose Co. No. 1 in Dansville and a life member of the Dansville Rod and Gun Club. He was a member of both the Daniel Goho American Legion Post and the VFW Post No. 6780 in Dansville and for those that remember, he was a member of “Soup Club.” Bob was a good man; he planned, implemented, created and worked on many ideas and activities in the Dansville community. In his many years in law enforcement and in the fire department, Bob helped many families and individuals. At a less complicated time in life, he did his job in law enforcement with compassion and humor when possible and severity when needed.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Erin (James) Meter of Dansville; sons, Michael (Barbara) LaForce of Dansville, Peter (Marcia) LaForce of West Senaca, Robert (Pamela) LaForce, Joseph (Dawn) LaForce and David (Carol Johnson) LaForce, all of Dansville; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
There will be no prior calling hours. A private family memorial service and interment will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, at the West Sparta Methodist Church. Friends are invited to join Bob’s family at the Union Hose Club Room on Elizabeth Street in Dansville at noon for a celebration of both Bob and Jane’s life. Memorial contributions may be made to Livingston County Hospice Fund, 2 County Campus, Mt. Morris, NY 14510 or the Juvenile Diabetes Rochester Foundation, Rochester Chapter, 1200-A Scottsville Rd., Suite 100, Rochester, NY 14624.
