They are entering winter with an undefeated season behind them as well as fundraising to help with trip to nationals in March. The team plans to travel to Virginia Beach to compete for a National title.
They have earned some of the money but are still busy trying to lock in the trip. They have not only been selling poinsettias, beef jerky and Applebees tickets, they were at Winter in the Village selling basket raffle tickets.
The cheerleaders they have been involved with community service participating with Relay for Life and they will help with the community food drive in December.
Even with all this they have been practicing three hours a night since August to perfect a routine that was good enough to win sectional, leagues and competition at University of Buffalo.
Through this all, each cheerleader has maintained a 90 or higher average in the classroom, giving the squad Scholar Athlete status.
The team is also trying to raise money for new uniforms — some of the team’s seniors have worn the same uniforms since eighth grade.
“We want to thank everyone that has supported us by purchasing from the team,” Coaches Phyllis and Larry Greene said. “We could not do it without you. We will do our best to continue to make you proud and represent ourselves, our family and our school with pride. Like our music says, ‘DHS, stand proud, stand tall.’”
In keeping with the team’s tradition, Dansville cheerleaders will host a competition with 30-40 schools expected on Jan. 12 — one of the team’s biggest fundraisers. Community members wishing to add support for the team or for more information about the team’s fundraising activities and upcoming competition can contact the team’s coaches at 585-335-8468.
