Robert O. “Bob” Beckwith, 91, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010.

He was born in Cazenovia on Dec. 7, 1919, a son of the late Ralph and Katherine (Judd) Beckwith. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Kenneth and Mary Beckwith. On April 1, 1961, he was married to Mildred (Hults) Beckwith who survives.

Bob was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving 1942-45, and was a participant in the following campaigns: Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland.  He was a longtime member of Daniel Goho Post No. 87 of the American Legion and the Frank Casbolt Post No. 6780 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Dansville.

Bob owned and operated Bob’s Electric Service in Rush for several years; after he sold the business he worked for Betlem Heating Service in Rochester for more than 20 years. After retirement, Bob and Millie moved to Dansville, and wintered in Florida. When in Dansville he continued to be very busy every day repairing electric motors for area farmers and repairing and collecting antique clocks.  He was a good neighbor and enjoyed helping his friends fix things that needed repairing. He also enjoyed watching the neighborhood children play and fixing their toys when they broke. Mildred was the love of his life along with his dear cat, Kipper, who will both miss him greatly.

Surviving in addition to his dear wife, Millie, are his siblings, Gene (Arlene) Beckwith of Minnesota and Alice (Nick) Marasco of Andover; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends called from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville, where services were held at the completion of calling hours. Interment was in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville with military honors.
