Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I – Corning) was recently awarded the New York Farm Bureau's Circle of Friends honor. Palmesano earned the award for the second consecutive year in recognition of his commitment to agriculture in New York and the vital roll it plays in the Empire State's economy.

"Assemblyman Phil Palmesano was awarded our Circle of Friends legislative award for 2012 based upon his strong voting record on issues of importance to New York agriculture and his work on behalf of the New York Farm Bureau," said Dean Norton, president of New York Farm Bureau. "We appreciate the assemblyman's support of agriculture in New York state."

"Agriculture is one of New York's most important economic drivers and I'm very excited that the New York Farm Bureau has included me in their Circle of Friends," said Palmesano. "I've been able to see firsthand the positive impact that family farms have on our region. I will continue to advocate for agriculture and family farms, the backbone of our state's economy."

The New York Farm Bureau is the state's largest farm-advocacy organization. The Circle of Friends award is bestowed on lawmakers who have demonstrated strong support for agriculture and family farms, including sponsorship of bills that the Farm Bureau supports or considers important during the legislative session.

The 132nd Assembly District, which Palmesano seeks to represent in January, is a new district as a result of the latest reapportionment process. The new district includes most of Steuben County, four northern Chemung County towns (Catlin, Veteran, Erin and VanEtten), four southern Seneca County towns (Romulus, Ovid, Covert and Lodi), all of Yates and Schuyler counties. Palmesano was first elected as assemblyman in 2010 representing the current 136th Assembly District, which consists of Steuben and Yates counties.
