Anna J. Weiand, 89, passed away late Wednesday evening, Dec. 22, 2010, at her home.

Anna J. Weiand, 89, passed away late Wednesday evening, Dec. 22, 2010, at her home.


Anna was born June 25, 1921 in Wayland, the daughter of Jacob and Sylvia (Inscho) Wolfanger. She grew up in Wayland and has been a life resident of the Wayland-Perkinsville area. She was a 1938 graduate of Wayland Central School and subsequent to high school she worked at the Huguet Silk Mill for several years.


Later in life, she also worked at the Wayland Library and at Wayland Central School for several years.


Anna and William Weiand were married Jan. 16, 1946, and together have celebrated more than 32 years of marriage prior to Bill passing away March 1978. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church since the 1940s, was a life member of the Wayland American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Golden Agers.


Anna enjoyed working in her flowerbeds, crocheting, reading, cooking, baking and working on family geneology.


Anna was predeceased by her husband, William Weiand; sisters, Hilda and Hazel Wolfanger; brothers, Charles, William, Kenneth, Frederick and Louis Wolfanger; sisters-in-law, Margaret Leake and Dorothy Clement Hayes. She is survived by her children, Carol (Bruce) Niven of Wayland, Deborah (Terry) Finch of Wayland and Sandy Booth of Perkinsville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Sorge of Urbana; brother, John (Nancy) Wolfanger of Washington; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Wolfanger of Wayland, Patricia Wolfanger of Florida, Dorothy Wolfanger of Dansville, and Rose Ann Wolfanger of Wayland; along with several nieces and nephews.


Anna’s family and friends called 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. A prayer service was offered for Anna at 9:15 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Anna at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church in Perkinsville. Committal prayers and interment will take place immediately following at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Contributions in Anna J.
