The big news this week is from the Springwater–Webster Crossing Historical Society. Donna Walker, president, has announced the fall activities and is hoping for many residents, friends and relatives to attend. On Sunday, Sept. 2, Ted Canute and Scott Standish will be cooking a Pulled Pork Dinner (adults $8) to benefit the society. Your support between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. is requested. The Museum will be open while dinners are being served. You can see the displays of an early kitchen, post office and weaving loom and hear some stories from one of our docents.
Many thanks are extended to everyone that attended the Spaghetti Dinner and Music Jam this past week on Thursday. I heard from Ralph Hamilton that he played his guitar and banjo right into the night until after 9 p.m. The next one will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27. Do put it on your calendar now.
Congratulations to Ralph Hamilton for placing fourth in the USA in bare bow archery competition and first in New York state in that event. He also won other first place accolades at the recent national convention. You will need to talk to him to find out the whole story.
Equipment on the farm is always breaking down. This week we had the weed whacker safety cover disintegrate from use and the giant tractor tire (15-5-38) on the Ford 5000 crack in many places, also from years of use. Christmas tree farming is harder that it looks on the surface. Thursday, Sept. 6, from 4 to 7 p.m., a Conifer Disease, Insect and Weed Management Twilight Meeting will be held at Stokoe Farms on South Road in Scottsville. $20 on-sight registration covers tour, dinner and presentation by Brian Eshenaur, Cornell Extension Educator in the Integrated Pest Management Program.
The Springwater Trails hike Sunday, Aug. 26, was to Bully Hill State Forest on the Finger Lakes Trail. If you would like to join the hikers on one of their hikes, obtain details from firstname.lastname@example.org and enjoy seeing some beautiful country. The weather has been phenomenal the past few weeks.
