  • Following a successful fall cheer campaign, don’t blink your eye, but the Dansville cheerleading team is back! Yes, the winter season is now underway and there’s a lot of very familiar faces from fall cheerleading as coaches Larry and Phyllis Greene are excited about the upcoming season. It marks one of the few seasons in recent memory that the program has had a full junior varsity squad, as opposed to a little better than a quartet from a few years ago. The key is simply that good coaching and success breeds numbers.
Last year on the varsity side of things the Mustangs finished up their season by taking a first at the University of Buffalo with the second highest score out of 43 teams competing. Deb Gleason also won the spirit award at that competition while the team also took second place at both the LCAAs and in Sectionals. The Mustangs are hoping to climb into the No. 1 spot this year in this subjective sport.
Also for Dansville, they will again host their annual Spirit Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 15. As of press time the Mustang Cheer Team will be competing in Avoca on Jan. 8, in the LCAA League Cheer-Off  at Keshequa on Feb. 12. The point sectionals will follow at RIT and the Dansville girls may go to the Elmira Tournament in February as well.
The coaches echo their sentiments in saying, “We think its going to be another great season.”
On the varsity side of things the roster reads this way: Amelie Fartaria, Brittney Rowe, Clara Inzinna, Debbie Gleason, Deb Riveria, Emily Doe, Jennah Kennedy, Kat Lopez, Kenedi Young, Kirstyn Applin, Maddie Brietzke, Nicole Dugo, Samantha Carey,  Samantha Martinez and Tempestt Wilbur. Jamie Mackey is back to coach the Dansville junior varsity cheerleading squad which will feature junior Zachhary Coffey; sophomores-Amanda Irish, Ashley Lanning, Brielle Grippi, Brittany Grippi, Kaylynn Stanley, Lacey Ellis and Nicole Scott; and freshman Rebecca Rex.
