  • The Wayland-Cohocton girls softball squad got back on the winning track on Friday as they scored four times in the first inning and then subdued rival Dansville in an LCAA Division 1 match-up at the Nest.
The Golden Eagles won it 8-2. Coach Dave Stewart’s team had a five-run advantage before Dansville finally got on the board in the fourth when Billie Chappell tripled and later scored. Gene Jackson’s club scratched away another run in the top of the fifth but Way-Co countered by scoring three times in their final two at-bats to ice the cake.
Wayland-Cohocton had a fine pitching performance from Kieara Notebaert as the senior right hander threw a complete game in gaining the win. She handcuffed the Lady Mustangs on two hits while striking out 10 and walking three. Only one of the runs was earned.
Offensively for the Golden Eagles Amanda Feeley was 2-3 with a stolen base and two RBIs. Taylor Welytok also went 2-3 and drove in two runs. Diane Cork was 2-3 with two stolen bases and scored two runs. Courtney Smith 1-4 with a triple and scored twice.  Notebaert was 1-4 knocking in a run and scoring one. Mackenzie Weber was 1-4 and stole a base. Hannah McKelvey 1-2 with a double, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Chelsea Bartlett also scored a run for the victorious maroon and gold.
Dansville’s Billie Chappell had a triple and scored a run for the Lady Mustangs in the setback. The two teams square off against each other again in Dansville on May 7 at Babcock Park.
