“I think we were in awe because we have never played there before,” Way-Co coach John Crossett said. “We simply just didn’t play well at all in the first quarter. The rest of the way we were right with them.”

The sluggish start Crossett referred to was an 11-2 run in the first period for the Leopards who dug their claws into a nine-point lead right out of the gate. Odyssey led the game 23-12 at the half before the Golden Eagles started to flap their wings in the third, outscoring the Leopards 14-9 to pull within six heading into the fourth.

Odyssey continued to trade buckets with Way-Co the rest of the way as the city team moved on with a 41-34 win sending the Golden Eagles packing in the first round.

Carissa Birthright led the Leopards ( 13-6) with 14 points while Taylor Burns scored 11, and Mindy Bly scored eight of her nine points in the first half.

Wayland-Cohocton finishes at 7-12 for the season and saw Mckenzie Weber score eight with seven rebounds. Ashley Heiman also scored eight. Jade Harris netted six points. Taylor Welytok scored four with five boards. Diane Cork had three points and six assists. Alex LaClair scored three. Courtney Smith added two and Hannah McKelvey grabbed a handful of rebounds in the seasons’s finale for Wayland-Cohocton.
