The Wayland-Cohocton Area Community Chest began its 2012 door-to-door drive this week, and is needing your help to reach its $13,000 goal. Last year’s goal of the same amount was met, and organizers are hoping for another successful of an result.
The community chest is a local organization made up of about 20 volunteers who raise funds to simply give back to local not-for-profit organizations. Fourteen organizations in Steuben and Livingston counties will benefit this year in areas of community, health and emergency, and youth and elder services.
“We’re hoping that we’ll be able to meet that goal,”?publicity chair?Marian Crawford said. Because of the economy, the community chest had to lower its goal a few years ago to make it more attainable.
The cost of publicity has caused the community chest to also drop some of its campaign promotion this year, but that isn’t keeping organizers from being optimistic. Door-to-door canvassing started Sunday. The campaign is expected to run until the end of the year, depending on donations.
In addition to the fund drive, a duck derby will be conducted during the Cohocton Fall Foliage Festival. Tickets to sponsor a toy duck to ‘race’ down the Cohocton River can be found at Wayland Library.
The community chest has been in Wayland for nearly 60 years. To make a contribution, checks can be made payable to Wayland Community Chest, P.O. Box 392, Wayland, NY 14572.
