The Bardavon Opera, in collaboration with the New Paltz Ballet Theatre, will present three reduced cost daytime performances of the Nutcracker on Thursday December 6th and Friday 7th to school districts and community members. This classic ballet amazes children and adults alike putting everyone who watches in the holiday spirit. The thrill of the cheese cannon as the life-sized soldiers attack the Rat King and his minions is matched by the joy of entering the Land of Sweets with Marie and the Nutcracker Prince.
In addition to this performance bringing professionals from the New York City Ballet to our backyard, each year two rising young stars are selected to play the lead role of Marie. This year one of the young dancers playing Marie is our very own Alanna Trees of Saugerties. Alanna, is currently an 6th grader attending the Charles M. Riccardi Elementary School in the Saugerties Central School District.
"I enjoy seeing the smiles on the audiences' faces,” says Alanna who has been dancing ballet for six and a half years, “Sharing my love of ballet with them is a great thing. The New Paltz School of Ballet and New Paltz Ballet Theatre is my life. The teachers are great, everyone is so nice. I have learned so much and I’m so grateful. I enjoy it so much. I wish I could just stay there forever. "

The Nutcracker performance satisfies NYS Arts Standards in visual arts, music, dance and theatre three and four.
