Donald F. Nice, 84, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Donald F. Nice, 84, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.


Don was born June 26, 1926, in Dansville, a son of Edward and Ruby (Wheaton) Nice. He was a graduate of Dansville High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II, 1944–45. Don married Margaret DePuy on June 14, 1953; she survives. He was the owner and sign contractor of Custom Craft Signs in Dansville for many years, until 1992 when he retired. In addition to his parents, Don was also predeceased by a son, David Nice and a daughter, Lizbeth (Nice) Faine.


Don was a member of Dansville Lions Club, the Dansville American Legion, the Dansville VFW, the Dansville Community Players, the Dansville Union Hose Fire Company, several Brae Burn bowling leagues and the Soup Club.


He enjoyed playing at the casinos, pastel portraitures, Main Street murals, TV westerns, deer hunting, poker night, family parties and cocktails, painting with a 1½-inch brush, Myrtle Beach vacations, parade floats; both building and designing, acting on stage and his alter ego the comedian “Evil Knice.”


He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Maggie; his children, Nancy Nice (Rhonda) of Dansville; Brandee (Nice) Snyder of Springville, Ariz.; Jon (Sue) Nice of Dansville; James (Lisa) Nice of Canandaigua; and Jason Nice of El Segundo, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Laural Nice of Conesus; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Elsie Rogers of Dansville; three nieces, three nephews and several cousins.


Friends may call 1–3 and 6–8 p.m. Thursday at the Chamberlin–Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville, where funeral services with full military honors will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville.
