How about that Dansville girls youth soccer program? There are certainly many encouraging signs pointing toward the future as program coordinator Mike Kozak reported over the weekend that the Lady Mustangs U-12 soccer team notched the Kohl's National American Cup Series tournament top spot in Churchville on July 15.

The Dansville girls had to come from behind to win the cup. On Saturday, July 14, they had to play with no subs in the 90-plus-degree heat to play to a 1-1 tie with the host team and suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 setback to Gates. On Sunday the Lady Mustangs turned the tables in the final round by defeating both opponents to capture the cup. Dansville blanked Churchville 3-0 and then stung Gates in the finals 4-1 as they did not disappoint their loyal fans who made the trip.

Some great defense was turned in by Courtney Lowe and Jade Freeman who used their speed, while Meghan Waters kept the back third clear. In the midfield Morgan Oldfield, Breigh Graves and  Rachel Drake took control to help set things up for the offense. Up front Leahanna Gilbert and Maddie Vedger added their speed and agility to perk up the offensive end. From a scoring standpoint, Shea Kozak scored three goals and added an assist. Baylie Harnish had a hat-trick. Maddie Vedger had a goal and an assist. Meghan Waters scored a goal. Leahanna Gilbert and Morgan Oldfield each dished out a pair of assists. Tia Mountzouros had an assist. In net, Drake, Lowe and Mountzouros combined to allow just three goals in four games.
