Carol J. Knapp, 85, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 12, 2012, at the home of her daughter, Sharon Congelli.

Carol was born Dec. 22, 1926, in Wayland, a daughter of William and Margaret (Emlaw) Bricks. Carol grew up always knowing she wanted to be a wife and mother. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Duane Knapp; her sister, Alice Beman; and her brothers, William and Richard Bricks. She lived her life nurturing and loving her family. She was locally renowned for her expertise in the kitchen; her cookies and pies are legendary. She enjoyed working puzzles and crosswords, bird watching and knitting and for years she participated in mixed and ladies' bowling leagues at Wayland Bowl-A-Way. Carol was a very active member of the Atlanta Presbyterian Church participating in Sunday school and memorial fund. She was also a member of the Atlanta-North Cohocton Development Corporation, the Rebekahs and the PTA. She was the cafeteria manager for the Atlanta-North Cohocton School, she co-owned and co-operated Knapp’s Red and White with her husband, she worked for a time at the Dansville Big M market, the Wayland Central School cafeteria and was the former senior nutrition site coordinator for the SCEOP.

Carol is survived by one cousin, Anna Lawrence, of Wayland; her daughter, Sharon Congelli, of Wayland; her son, Lee (Megumi) Knapp, of Crossville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Jonas (Tammy) Congelli, Sarah (Mark) Wilcox, Carol (George) Smith, Michael (Jennifer) Congelli, Mark (Jeanine) Knapp and Melodee Knapp; seven great-grandchildren, Steffaney and Nathaniel Wilcox; Emily, Allison, Matthew and Anna Congelli; Isabella Congelli; three stepdaughters, Lois (James) Mark, of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; Winifred Feathers of Lakeville; Joan (Leland) Brewster of Dansville and their families to include 15 grandchildren, Irene (John) Pasternak, Marjory (Dale) Peterson, Walter (Dianna) Mark, Cynthia (John) Iabone, James Mark, John (Wendy) Mark, Wendy (Frank) West, Kathy Barut, Melynda (Carmen) Angiolillo, Edward (Michelle) French, William (Tina) French, Robert (Charisse) French, Diane (Gary) Snyder, William (Brenda) Brewster and Tammy (George) Henry as well as many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 27, at the Atlanta Presbyterian Church, Main St., Atlanta. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Wayland.
