Dorothy E. Macchirella, 76 of Dansville died peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 19.

She was born the daughter of Ora and Hazel (Smith) Covey on July 19, 1936, in Albion. She married Joseph Macchirella on Dec. 5, 1953, in Mount Morris.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a switchboard operator at Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Dansville. She enjoyed crocheting, watching tennis and was a Cleveland Browns fan.

She is survived by her five children, Lorene (John) Bickford of Caledonia; Steven Macchirella and John Macchirella, both of Florida; Michael (Vicki) Macchirella of Ohio; and Carrie Keene of Springwater; 14 grandchildren, Jay (Nicole), Jodi (Peter), Katie (Travis), Angela, Cassie, Mandy, Joseph, Elicia, Libby, Allie, Abby, Cheri (Craig), Rhiannon and Hannah; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters—in—law, Josephine Argenta, Mary (Dominick) Peraino, Carmella Palma, Teresa Regoni, Sally Marble, Angie Guarino and Jennie (John) Koch; several nieces, nephews and cousins and many dear and loving friends. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1978 and a brother and three sisters.

Friends called Sunday at the John W. Martin Funeral Home, 37 Chapel St., Mount Morris, where prayers were said Monday at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral mass at St. Patrick’s Church at 9:30 a.m. Interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
