  • Students have returned to classes following a nice Thanksgiving break. For older students participating in athletics this means the winter season is truly gearing up. For instrumental and vocal students this means the concert season is upon us and their final preparations for the holiday concerts has begun. For students it means the near completion of the 15 weeks as time continues to fly by. Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher directly if you need to discuss your child’s performance or any other issues.
Wayland-Cohocton families are invited to a Family Day Christmas with Marian Crawford on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the museum. Make a decoration or help decorate a tree. Parents are welcome and encouraged to join their children. Bring a friend! This is make-and-take event. The program is free although donations are always gratefully accepted.
Also for the family during the holiday season, Wayland-Cohocton students will be taking part in bringing the holidays to Main Street. Christmas in Wayland will return on Dec. 6 from 3:30 to 8 p.m. There will holiday shopping at the American Legion, A tree lighting with carolers at 5:45 p.m. Santa arrives at 5 p.m. and there are free wagon rides. Get dinner at the chicken barbecue prepared by the Perkinsville Fire Department to benefit the Vincent House at Five Star Bank. (Tickets are available at Five-Star or at The Vincent House.) There will be a living Nativity from 5 to 8 p.m. at Five-Star Bank as well.
Please keep an eye out for the upcoming concert schedule that ushers us through the holiday season. The seventh and eighth grade will perform on Thursday, Dec. 6, followed by their trip to the all on Friday, Dec. 7. The fifth grade concert is Tuesday, Dec. 11, and the Selection will perform at the Wayland Historical Society on Wednesday, Dec. 12. Don’t miss the high school concert on Thursday, Dec. 13. Sixth graders will perform on Tuesday, Dec. 18, wrapping up the holiday performances.
There are some important dates to remember. All students will be dismissed on Friday, Dec. 7, at 11:30 a.m. This time will be used for the staff for professional development. Winter recess is slated from Monday, Dec. 24, through Jan. 1, 2013. Students return to class on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
