  • Students have returned to school and a very busy week. This week is the NYS English Language Arts exams for students in grades three through eight. Next week the same students will be tested in mathematics on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Please help your children arrive to school well-rested and ready to take on this challenge. Help calm their nerves with positive reinforcement and encouragement. Remember, breakfast is served at school for those crazy mornings when you need a nutritious start to your day.
Sunday, April 22 is the Frank Mochol Memorial Scholarship Benefit Concert at 2 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Come and here the Southern Tier All Star Big Band and the WC High School Jazz Band. Donations will be accepted for the scholarship offered annually at graduation. Checks should be made out to WCCS with F. Mochol Schol. Fund written in the memo line. Refreshments will be served at the concert.
The eighth grade will take part in the annual Big Bee Spelling Bee on Friday, April 27, at 1:30 p.m. in the LGI. Don’t miss the drama club’s performance of Deadwood Dick on April 27-28. Check the school website calendar for middle and high school marching band practice. The board of education will meet again on Monday, April 30.
The 2012-13 student calendar has been posted on the website. It can be found on the maroon border on the left side of any school page. It includes information about next year’s vacations, conferences days and open houses. Please check the calendar as there are significant changes to the spring recess. All students should be present for classes up to and including the last day posted on the calendar. The calendar was created to address testing times and to make sure that all students have the maximum access to their programs including off-campus programs associated with BOCES.
Thank you to everyone that participated in the annual technology recycling day. A great deal of material was kept from the landfill. Keep an eye out for the announcement about the weight of the collection. Each year it seems to grow a little more.
