  • We have arrived at May and the final two months of school. With the NYS ELA and mathematics testing behind us, some high school students are currently preparing for their Advanced Placement exams during the next two weeks. The schedule has been posted to the high school homepage for anyone looking for the information. Friday, May 11, marks the end of the 35 weeks bringing students just five weeks from the end of the school year!
    The Wayland-Cohocton Board of Education will present a public hearing for the 2012-13 proposed budget on Tuesday, May 8, at 7 p.m. during its regular meeting. The budget as well as board of education candidates will be presented to voters on Tuesday, May 15, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please save the date.
    May 7-11 marks Teacher Appreciation Week. What a great opportunity to remember your own teacher or to thank you child’s teacher for a job well-done. Nothing is more significant in life than our learning experiences and these professionals do a great deal to create those positive opportunities each and every day. Likewise, Wednesday, May 9, is school nurse appreciation day. These caring people work every day to make sure our kids are able to learn and grown healthy.
    The middle school band will be joining the young sluggers as Victory Park celebrates opening day for the baseball and softball programs on Saturday, May 5. Come out at 11 a.m. and take part in the fun as the kids walk up Main Street to the park from the bank.
     
    Other events:
    • The high school marching band practices on Monday and Wednesday, May 7 and 9, and the middle school marching band practices on Thursday, May 10.
    • National Junior Honor Society Induction ceremony will be on Monday, May 14.
    • There is roller skating on May 14.
    • Kindergarten screening are scheduled for May 17 and 18.
    • The Dansville Dogwood Parade is Saturday May 19.
