Springwater residents have until next Monday to provide comments to the town council regarding a proposed moratorium on hydraulic fracturing in the town.
The Springwater Town Council is following the direction of several other towns in Livingston County and across New York. If passed, the moratorium would prevent gas extraction activities in Springwater for at least one year.
During the public hearing on Jan. 23, a packed house filled Springwater Town Hall, leaving just standing room. Several town residents and a few visitors spoke out, largely in support of a moratorium.
Springwater’s moratorium is scheduled for review at the Livingston County Planning Board tonight. On Feb. 13, the town council could act to affirm or reject the moratorium, which could take effect immediately.
