The Livingston County Department of Health issued an alert Monday warning of an increase in whooping cough cases.
According to a release, there have been 55 positive cases of pertussis, or whooping cough, since the beginning of this year, along with an increase of bronchitis and pneumonia cases.
Last year, during the same time period there was just one positive case.
Residents are advised that if they have a cough, cold or flu-like systems for longer than a week to contact a healthcare provider.
