Cohocton Town Council approved the installation of a monument in Lawrence Parks Recreation Area to honor Sgt. Devin A. Snyder, a 2008 Wayland-Cohocton graduate killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan June 4.
Cohocton Town Supervisor Jack Zigenfus announced during the Monday night town council meeting that the town was anonymously given a decorative rock about three to four feet high, weighing between 3,000 and 4,000 pounds. The rock will have a bronze plaque and base. Moving the rock into place will be done by LMC of Dansville.
The plan is to erect the monument on a central island near the parking area. The monument should be ready for a dedication on Veterans Day, a time for the ceremony has not been set.
Zigenfus sought the blessings of Devin’s parents before bringing the monument proposal before the board.
