Livingston County sheriff's deputies Tuesday were trying to track down a suspect who eluded authorities after a high-speed chase Monday night.

The pursuit began at 8:55 p.m., Monday, when a sheriff's office patrol unit attempted to stop a maroon pick-up truck on I-390, said Major Chris Smith. The patrol clocked the pick-up at 75 mph, Smith said. After the pick-up took Exit 6 and began nearing the Village of Dansville, the police called off the pursuit.

Smith said sheriff's patrol continued into Dansville, where deputies spotted the abandoned truck at Bone Yard Auto Salvage.

A search that utilized a K-9 failed to turn up the male suspect in the area, Smith said.

Numerous charges, including speeding, reckless driving and fleeing police, could be filed once a suspect is arrested, Smith reported. The pick-up truck driver should also expect an enquiry from authorities: why did you run?

"That will be the first question we ask him," Smith said.
