Following an initial tournament in Geneva a week ago, the Wayland Area Wrestling Club got things going in full force in Canisteo on Jan. 15 as the locals had a number of grapplers who hit the mats in the Southern Tier and placed at the tournament. Mike Green and club took three firsts to go along with four seconds and five thirds.
Among the first-place finishers were Logan Flannagan (3-0), Ryan Damboise (3-0) and Masin Schuster (4-0). Second-place grapplers included Jacob Pifer (4-1), Alex Ott (2-1), Colton Wood (2-1) and Max Herrington. Taking third were Dylan MacDonald (1-2), Nathan LaFaye (2-3), Wyatt Gates (2-2), Matt Martaschello (1-2) and J.J. Smith. Fourth-place finishers were Benjamin Canute, Brycen Lemmons, Evan Earl, Aaron Ott, Brandon Canute, Chase Teed, Tyler Butters, Daniel Harter, Joe Smith and Chris Otis. Finishing fifth were Dillon Quackenbush and Jaden Rocha.
The Wayland Area Wrestling Club will be in action on Saturday Jan. 21 in Bath starting at 9 a.m.
