The Red Jacket and Midlakes cheerleading teams both won their respective divisions at the 2013 Finger Lakes Cheerleading Championships at Waterloo High School on Saturday.

The Indians won the West and the Screaming Eagles won the East.

Red Jacket took the West with a score of 413.4. Bloomfield was second (373.8) and Dundee was third (364.8).

“They did an amazing job, they had a lot of energy taking the floor and they hit all of their stunts,” Indians coach Stephanie Beardsley said. “I am so unbelievably proud of their performance.”

Midlakes took the East with 435.9. Geneva was second (413), Newark was third (400.5) and Pal-Mac was fourth (386.5).

“They did a great job today,” Midlakes coach Laura Hovey said. “They really stepped up. They knew the competition was going to be tough and they definitely brought their A game today.”

Both coaches said their teams have been a dream to coach this season.

Red Jacket’s Bailey Kablack took first in the senior individual cheerleading competition. Wayne’s Christi Waltermeyer was second, Red Jacket’s Lindsey Johnson was third, and Midlakes’ Lacey Lapresi and Red Jacket’s Lexi Williams tied for fourth.

“I’m so incredibly proud of all four of my seniors,” Beardsley said. “Bailey and Lindsey qualified to cheer at the Ronald McDonald game. I’ve had these seniors for such a long time. These girls have had a dream in their heart to cheer at the Ronald McDonald game and to see it become a reality was just an incredible thing.”

This was the final competition before the Section 5 Cheerleading Winter Championships for many of the teams. Sectionals are Feb. 23 at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

“I’m confident in them,” Hovey said. “I know that we have some pretty tough competition. I know it’s going to be close, but I know this is the team that can pull it together and pull it off.”
