The Fairport field hockey team traveled to Webster Thomas looking to avenge their 1-0 loss earlier in the season.

The midfield combination of Genevieve Bianchi, Ashley Hughes Cloie Schessl and Lexi Foley controlled play at the center of the pitch, creating several scoring chances.  Midway through the period on a pass from Tylyn Martin, Casey Luke found the back of the net, for a Fairport 1-0 lead.

The halftime score remained 1-0.

The second half saw two quick goals by Luke and Kelly Consadine (both assists from Martin) to stretch the lead to 3-0 for the Lady Red Raiders. The defensive back line of Yvonne Gehrmann, Emily Prescott and Emma Sullivan worked hard in front of goalie Sara Cook to preserve the shut-out.

Consadine finished the scoring when she stole the ball from a defender and sent a laser shot past the goalie, for a 4-0 Fairport win.

For the final game of the regular season, Webster Schroeder traveled to Fairport. The Red Raiders started strong with several good scoring chances that either went wide or were stopped by the goalie and defense.

Schroeder concentrating on defense first, packing most of their team within the striking circle, not allowing the Lady Red Raiders clear shots on goal. On a long break-out pass, the Warriors caught the Lady Red Raiders off guard and converted this opportunity into a goal and a 1-0 half-time lead.

Five minutes into the second half Fairport earned a penalty corner. On the restart Consadine’s shot was blocked, but Martin was there to knock in the rebound for the equalizer.

Two minutes later Genevieve Bianchi found the perfect time to score her first goal of the season to push the score to 2-1 Red Raiders. Schroeder working hard in their offensive end, and found the back of the net to knot the score at 2.

Fans from both teams were on the edge of their seats with play going end-to-end. The score was still knotted at 2 when regulation time ran out.

The regular season was extended by an overtime period. Fairport took control early but was unable to capitalize on their chances. Schroeder gaining the ball in their defense end and sent a lead- pass to an attack player who had snuck behind the defense.

The player was one-on-one with Cook who blasted a shot to the lower corner. Cook made a diving save to keep the ball out of the net.

Play continued end-to-end. With time running out, Martin gathered in the ball, dribbled down the sideline and crossed-it to Consadine.

Consadine dribbled to beat her defender and ripped a shot into the corner of the net for the Red Raider win. Fairport finished the regular season 10-5-1, and earned the second seed in the sectional tournament.
