On February 15, the students at Laurelton-Pardee Intermediate School in East Irondequoit got a very powerful message from two pretty impressive guests — members of the Rochester Knighthawks lacrosse team.

Tyler Burton and Irondequoit native Joe Walters helped cap off the school’s anti-bullying week with a presentation entitled “We Got Your Back.” It’s a program the team started last year and it addresses three forms of bullying; mental, physical and social.

They didn’t just tell the kids not to bully others, they also wanted them to promise to make a stand and speak up when they see it happening around them.  The students were asked to sign a pledge-the same one all the Knighthawks have signed-which promises they will do their part.  In exchange for their commitment, the students were given a ticket to the February 16 game against Buffalo.

Throughout the week LP had a number of special days, including “Team Up Against Bullying” when students wore their favorite team apparel to school.  They also had an “Inside Out Day” and wore their clothes inside out to show that what a person has on the inside is just as important as what’s on the outside.

Not only did the K-Hawks visit on Friday, it was also Pajama Day — showing people it was time to put bullying to rest.
